Aladtec Team Exhibiting at Expansive EMS World Conference

Aladtec, the Wisconsin-based provider of cloud-based scheduling and workforce management software, will be among 340 exhibitors showcasing products and services to EMS professionals attending the EMS World Expo, Oct. 14-18 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Read all the latest news.

As of early October, nearly 900 EMS agencies nationwide are using Aladtec to provide 24/7 staffing coverage, swiftly fill open shifts, and allow members to trade shifts and request time off. The program also includes a sophisticated forms tool to speed up daily routines like rig- and med checks.

Aladtec's cloud-based scheduling and workforce management software is used by more than 2,300 agencies across North America, including 16 EMS, fire-, law enforcement and dispatch centers in the State of Louisiana.

"Aladtec has improved our operations on so many levels, and we have just scratched the service. Your tech support is 'Grade A' and was key in our rollout moving as smooth as it did. We have had no scheduling conflicts or employees saying - 'I didn't know I was working!' Your timeclock feature has streamlined our payroll process, saving us hours weekly. The many options for reports have opened up new avenues for tracking specific employees or entire workgroups," said Tanya Hardy, Operations Manager with EMS Care Ambulance, Columbus, GA. "The opportunities are endless. We are saving money using Aladtec."

Account executives Erin Rabideaux and Evan Tienken, and Support Specialist Matt Zinnel will offer free demonstrations of the software. They can answer user questions about Aladtec's many features and explain new integrations which enable the sharing of roster information with emsCharts, Emergency Reporting, and other popular reporting platforms.

Aladtec, a Passport sponsor for the EMS World conference, can be seen at Booth #1053. Expo hours will be from 11 am to 4:30 pm, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 16-17, and from 10 am to 1 pm, Friday, Oct. 18.

SWAGTRON's NG3 Electric Skateboard Keeps Cruising After Kids Kick Off

SWAGTRON®, the leader in affordable light electric vehicles, today introduces the all-new Swagskate NG3, a compact electric skateboard built just for kids. The mini e-board features "kick to cruise" technology aka Endless Mode, allowing young riders to experience the thrill of riding a board boosted by an electric motor without the need for a remote. Once the rider kicks off, the motor takes over and smart sensors in the board maintain speed automatically.

The NG3 is capable of speeds up to 9.3 mph, but only maintains whatever speed the rider achieves by kicking (think: cruise control), making it an intuitive way for young riders to progress from riding a traditional skateboard to an electric one. The motor disengages once any deceleration or resistance is detected allowing riders to slow and stop the same as a traditional board. Powered by a 100-watt motor, the NG3 can support riders up to 150 pounds and go up to 6 miles per charge.

"Our goal with the NG3 was to create an electric skateboard that offered kids the chance to experience the thrill of riding an e-board, but in a way that was a natural transition from traditional skateboards," says CMO Jason Wakefield. "And of course, to make it available at a price that parents would approve of."

The Swagskate NG3 is compact; at only 19.6 inches long it fits easily in a backpack. And weighing in at only 7.7 pounds, it's easy to carry, too. The lightweight deck features a futuristic shape and the griptape is emblazoned with the iconic lion logo. An LED taillight doubles as a color-coded systems indicator. A multicolor display shows during standby, while green means charged and ready to ride and red indicates braking. The LED also helps keep riders visible in low-light conditions.

The Swagskate NG3 kids electric skateboard retails for $160 and is available now at Swagtron.com, Amazon and select retailers for an introductory price of only $129.99.

AdventHealth Wesley Chapel Offering Innovative Technology to Provide Safer, More Convenient Options for Breast Care Patients

AdventHealth Wesley Chapel is now offering multiple innovative breast health advances to detect breast cancer and provide safer, convenient options for patients who require treatment. The hospital is now offering Contrast Enhanced Mammography and SCOUT® Wire-Free Radar Breast Localization System. Contrast enhanced mammography is used to detect tumors in dense breasts that may not be visible on a traditional mammogram and it is an alternative for breast care patients who are unable to undergo an MRI. SCOUT® is a new, more comfortable and convenient surgical option for women awaiting breast cancer surgery.

"AdventHealth Wesley Chapel has created a niche for providing high quality breast care services in a unique way that shows both compassion and convenience during what can be a very high stress time in someone's health journey," said Erik Wangsness, president and CEO of AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. "As we continue to expand our services to prevent, diagnose and treat our patients, we remain committed to having the most advanced medical technology and the best doctors possible."

Contrast enhanced mammography uses an injection into the vein to enhance the ability to see abnormal breast tissue on mammograms. These images provide greater detail when necessary to help care teams diagnose potential problems. Continue reading.

SCOUT® technology works by placing a tiny device about the size of a grain of rice, called a reflector, into the tumor at the patient's convenience before the day of breast surgery. This allows doctors to precisely locate and remove cancerous tissue during a lumpectomy or surgical biopsy procedure. SCOUT® is an alternative to the traditional process which requires marking tumors with a hooked wire inserted into the breast – which sticks out and causes patients to be restricted in movement.

"We are fortunate to offer the community the latest technological advancements in breast imaging and breast cancer surgery," said Dr. Jahnavi Pastore, Director of Breast Imaging at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. "From detection to treatment, we are committed to providing the best possible breast health care experience to our patients."

AdventHealth Wesley Chapel is home to Inspiration Place which is a one of a kind comprehensive women's health center fully dedicated to serving women of all ages and stages of life. Additionally, the hospital has partnered with Moffitt Cancer Center to provide additional outpatient cancer services to patients needing treatment.

Safety Tips for Seniors During Fire Prevention Week

In observance of Fire Prevention Week, Home Instead Senior Care wants to help older adults identify potential fire risks in their homes. For family members or family caregivers, Fire Prevention Week is the perfect time to have a conversation about fire safety with aging loved ones, as they may be particularly vulnerable in the event of a fire.

For example, over time, a decrease in sensory skills can make it difficult for seniors to identify signs of a fire. They may not smell natural gas or burning food. Vision impairments can contribute to depth perception issues, increasing risks related to placing flammable items near open flames, such as candles or stovetops.

"As we age, it's natural that we lose the full-capacity of our senses," explains Lakelyn Hogan, Gerontologist and Caregiver Advocate at Home Instead Senior Care. "Because their senses can't protect them like they once could, we must take time for extra precautions to help seniors protect themselves in other ways from fire risks."

Additional factors that can put seniors at increased risk include memory loss and limited mobility. Memory loss can be a dangerous factor when a senior forgets to turn off the oven, blow out a candle or clean out the lint drawer in the dryer. For those with mobility challenges, they may need assistance to evacuate in the event of a fire, especially for those living in a multilevel dwelling, such as an apartment where elevators will not be in use and they must exit by stairs.

Home Instead Senior Care offers these five tips to help reduce the risk of fire loss in your home or the home of a loved one:

  • Use Candle Alternatives – Candles create great fire risks in the home. They are easily forgotten. Wall plug-in lights are a smart alternative to open-flame candles for seniors to decrease the risk of catching nearby objects on fire.
  • Make Fire Extinguishers Accessible – Do not store fire extinguishers in hard-to-reach places or out of sight from the kitchen. Seniors should keep fire extinguishers in easy-to-reach places where they can get them quickly.
  • Keep Outlets Clear – Electric malfunctions are a leading cause of house fires. Make sure to keep flammable items away from outlets. Also, do not plug too many devices into an outlet. This is especially true in the winter months, when electricity use is high and people put up seasonal decorations.

  • Set-up an evacuation plan – For seniors with limited mobility, or those that live alone, establish a plan for evacuation in the event of a fire. Practice that plan to make sure your aging loved one knows how to get out. This may include getting neighbors involved to ensure someone is available and prepared to assist in the event that evacuation becomes necessary.

According to The NPD Group, 73 Percent of U.S. Consumers Play Video Games

According to 2019 Evolution of Entertainment Study, the latest report from The NPD Group, 73 percent of Americans ages 2 and older play video games, an increase of 6 percentage points since June 2018.

In the U.S., playing video games accounts for 17 percent of consumers' entertainment time and 11 percent of their total entertainment spend. However, while gaming engagement appears to be relatively stable overall, notable increases in both engagement and spending have been seen amongst kids ages 2 to 17.

"Kids are becoming a more influential part of the gaming marketplace thanks to games such as Fortnite and Minecraft, assisted by the growing influence of YouTube and Twitch," said Mat Piscatella, games industry analyst at The NPD Group. "More than one-third of kids are spending more time playing video games than they were a year ago, while well over 20 percent are also spending more."

Mobile remains the most accessible and popular gaming platform, with mobile gaming appealing to gamers across all consumer segments. Most mobile gaming consumers play on a daily, or near-daily basis, while gaming on PC's and consoles is more variable, tending to occur less often for longer sessions as it necessitates settling in for more intensive experiences.

"Because so many people own or have access to smart devices, and because gaming applications available on these devices offer many inexpensive, even free experiences, they remain the most accessible entry point for those who are curious about gaming," said Piscatella. "Mobile is where many experience gaming for the first time, allowing for an easy entry point to the broader world of gaming."

    Methodology
An online survey was fielded in June 2019 to members of NPD's online panel. The survey was completed by 5,000 individuals ages 2 and older. Participants in this survey were recruited from two representative pools: Adults (respondents ages 18+) were recruited for participation directly and completed the survey based on their own habits; and Children / Teens (respondents ages 2 to 17) were recruited via parent surrogates. Children over age 10 were instructed to complete the survey for themselves (with parental help, if needed). Parents of younger children were asked to complete the survey on their child's behalf, with the help of their child (if able). For the purposes of this analysis, respondents qualified as participants in an entertainment category if they reported that they had personally participated in a relevant activity in the six months prior to the survey.
