Limited Service Hotels Have Potential to Offer Room Service Through Tech Integration, Research Shows

New research shows potential for hotels to offer on-location dining through tech partnerships, without the F&B overhead. The findings come from a new white paper commissioned by iSeatz, a technology company providing digital booking experiences that integrate with loyalty programs, titled The Future of Room Service.

The report focused on consumers interest and usage in three main areas: traditional room service, and both food delivery and grocery delivery while traveling. Key findings include:

The number of hotels offering room has declined by 40% in a two-year period ending in 2016. Profits from F&B departments at hotels that offer room service are substantially lower than F&B departments are limited service hotels. Food delivery apps such as DoorDash, Grubhub and UberEats have continued to grow at substantial rates.

Two of the top five largest hotel chains have already embraced food delivery. In November 2017, Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) was the first hotel brand to launch a food delivery partnership, allowing members to earn IHG points for food delivery with Grubhub. In April 2019, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts launched a similar partnership with DoorDash as a way to facilitate in-room dining at their limited-service hotels, which make up approximately 80% of the hotel group's portfolio.

"We found that the interest in room service is still very high with travelers," said Kenneth Purcell, CEO of iSeatz. "Hotels can facilitate their loyal guests' dining needs through an asset-light tech partnership with a food delivery partner, instead of creating an expensive room service program."

This whitepaper is the third survey produced by Phocuswright and iSeatz. In Spring 2018, Business Travelers' Demand for Ancillary Services was published as a companion piece to Hotel Ancillaries: An Unexplored Opportunity which focused on the leisure traveler's interest in ancillary products.

Monster Energy’s Larry Edgar Takes Third Place at Vans BMX Pro Cup in Mexico City

The level of BMX progression is off the charts right now and Monster Energy riders are pushing the boundaries. Monster Energy congratulates Larry Edgar on taking third place at the third stop of the Vans BMX Pro Cup series in Mexico City this weekend. In front of a capacity crowd at the Skatepark Metro Puebla 2, the 26-year-old from Corona, California, earned his podium spot despite a knee injury in a highly contested finals featuring the world's best BMX park riders.

Also walking away with a trophy, Monster Energy's Kevin Peraza took first place in the progression-driven Best Trick event. In an open session that had the high-energy crowd on its feet, the 24-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, pulled a never-been-done 180 Backflip Tailwhip over the park's spine ramp to take the top spot.

Now in its third season, the Vans BMX Pro Cup series is the world's leading platform for elite BMX park terrain competition. This year's series kicked off in April in Sydney, Australia, followed by a successful event in Stuttgart, Germany, in June. As the penultimate event on the roster, the Mexico tour stop provided a final chance to collect tour ranking points before the 2019 BMX World Championships go down in Huntington Beach, California, this September.

Edgar came to Mexico City as the defending 2018 Vans BMX Pro Cup World Champion, but with significant work to do after bumpy season start in Sydney. The newly upgraded Skatepark Metro Puebla 2 – featuring remodeled quarterpipes and new course elements – catered to Edgar's penchant for high aerials and insane turns. But the competition wasn't sleeping.

Adding to the challenge, Edgar started his weekend with a potentially debilitating injury. He suffered what he thinks was a knee dislocation on the first day of practice. "It was all my fault! I was just warming up and put my foot down weird," said Edgar, who continued to ride in unbroken spirit. He commenced to take off the next practice day and still cruised through the semifinals to qualify for the final in a pack of 35 semifinalists. Be alert to the latest news.

Despite the injury, Edgar came into the final session swinging and back to his typical self with higher-than-everyone-else airs around the vast concrete park. The overall-impression format of the Vans BMX Pro Cup favors unique approaches to the bowl and a variety of tricks, which is exactly what Edgar delivered: Highlights like huge lookback aerial in the deep end, technical 360 tailwhip to fakie, high-flying 360 no-hander over the centerpiece kicker, and big 360 air to fakie paved the way to the podium.

"Anytime I ride my bike is a great time, but it wasn't an ideal situation. I did the best I could and had a blast, so I'm super stoked on coming away with third," said Edgar on his podium finish in Mexico City.

This weekend's third-place finish moves Edgar up in current 2019 Pro Tour rankings, but he has some work ahead of him to be a contender for the World Championship. In order to fully focus on claiming his third Vans BMX Pro Cup World Champion title, Edgar has made a difficult decision:

He will be skipping the revered Battle Of Hastings event in England in early September to stay healthy for the fourth and final stop of the Vans BMX Pro Cup series from September 13-15 at Vans Off The Wall Skatepark in Huntington Beach, California.

Ending an action-filled BMX weekend with a banger, Monster Energy's Kevin Peraza came into the Best Trick jam to battle a never-been-done move (also known as an 'NBD') that's in a league of its own. At the previous Vans BMX Pro Cup stop in Stuttgart, Germany, Peraza already bagged first place in Best Trick with a backflip 180 over the spine. Taking it to the next level, he threw a tailwhip into the move during the BMX Park Best Trick event at X Games Minneapolis 2019 – but couldn't ride it out before the buzzer. Read this for more information.

Now it was on. All the stars aligned in Mexico City and Peraza pulled his Flairwhip over the spine on his first try. Unreal. History was made and the crowd lost its mind. Also adding to the stoke, Kevin's Monster teammate Pat Casey landed an equally insane 540 tailwhip to fakie over the 14-foot box to give judges a tough time deciding on a winner. In the end, it was Peraza who took top honors with his never-been-done trick that raised the bar for BMX progression another crucial notches.

“Holiday in Humboldt with Hard Luck Mfg. and Friends” Raises Funds for the Humboldt Skatepark Collective

Humboldt Skatepark Collective, along with numerous business sponsors, today announced the date and details for its annual fundraising event. Billed as "Holiday in Humboldt with Hard Luck Mfg and Friends," the event will take place on Saturday, September 14 from 11:00 am-5:00 pm PT at Cooper Gulch Skatepark, 1720 10th Street in Eureka, CA.

Read news here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/bright-pattern-provides-innovative.html

At "Holiday in Humboldt," skaters from the local community will join forces with special guests from other parts of California to raise funds for new skateparks in Humboldt County. The event will feature a professional skate demo and a competition for local skaters, as well as great food, beer, and music from the local community.

"We are committed to establishing skating as one more exciting outdoor recreational activity on the North Coast," said Riley Morrison, Volunteer, Humboldt Skatepark Collective. "People come to Humboldt for so many great reasons -- to visit the Redwoods, the Lost Coast, the Trinity River, Humboldt State University, and more. Skating is a way for local residents to express themselves, and another fantastic reason for people from outside the area to visit. At 'Holiday in Humboldt,' we will be honored to host some of the biggest names in the skateboarding world."

The objective of Humboldt Skatepark Collective is to develop a more robust network of skateparks on the North Coast, and boost awareness of skateboarding as an outdoor recreational sport in Humboldt County. The proceeds from "Holiday in Humboldt" will go to building skate parks in Humboldt and provide skateboards, helmets, and other gear for kids, as well as grants toward park enhancements and expansions in 2020. Money raised through last year's Pro Am Skate Jam Event went toward grants for projects at Willow Creek's Veterans Park, McKinleyville's Pierson Park and a memorial dedication park in Fortuna.

"Holiday in Humboldt" is sponsored by a number of leading skate brands, including Hard Luck Mfg, Santa Cruz, Ampt Skate Shop, and Humboldt Skate Lab, as well as a number of high-quality craft cannabis producers from Humboldt County, including Emerald Queen Farms, Barrett Farms, Humboldt Terp Council, Humboldt Kine Farms, Papa and Barkley and True Humboldt. The event will feature a professional skating demonstration with a number of high-profile skaters, such as Jaws (Aaron Homoki) Wes Kremer, Kiade Huston, Jimmy Cao and Greyson Fletcher. It will also include several food vendors, beer from local artisan breweries, and more. "Last year's event was the most humble love from a skateboard community that I've ever felt," said Jason Jessee, a professional skater who participated in last year's event.

"Humboldt Skatepark Collective and Emerald Queen Farms are working in tandem to make connections within and outside of the local community and put Humboldt on the map as a skating destination," said Hannah Whyte, Emerald Queen Farms. "As residents of Humboldt County, we believe that it's important for people to have a safe place to skate outside. When we travel with our family, we seek out places that have skateparks so that our kids can enjoy the experience of being outdoors and connect with people who live in those areas. We want people to be able to do that here, too."

"'Holiday in Humboldt' is a completely collaborative effort between cannabis and non-cannabis businesses in Humboldt County," said Jake Jones, Creative Director, Velvet Supply. "The cannabis businesses are excited because their sponsorship of this event demonstrates that they can finally come out of the shadows and do good things for the community. Non-cannabis businesses in Humboldt are also psyched about this event because it offers an opportunity to attract new customers. We are working together to make Humboldt an even better place to live and work. It's a great partnership."

RSNA: Some Pregnant Women Are Exposed to Gadolinium in Early Pregnancy

A small but concerning number of women are exposed to a commonly used MRI contrast agent early in their pregnancy, likely before many of them are aware that they're pregnant, according to a study published in the journal Radiology. The results support adherence to effective pregnancy screening measures to help reduce inadvertent exposures to these contrast agents during early pregnancy.

Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) are used in as many as 45 percent of MRI exams in the United States to improve the visualization of organs and tissue. Recent evidence shows that trace levels of gadolinium may be retained in the body after the MRI, although the implications of this are not yet understood.

Gadolinium can cross the placenta and enter the fetal circulation. The safety of GBCAs in pregnant women has not been established, and their use during pregnancy is not recommended unless essential to the health of the woman or fetus. Available data from cohort studies and case reports have revealed inconsistent findings regarding the association between gadolinium and adverse fetal outcomes.

To obtain a more precise idea of the prevalence of GBCA exposure among pregnant women, study lead author Steven Bird, Pharm.D., Ph.D., of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Division of Epidemiology, and colleagues analyzed data on U.S. pregnancies resulting in live births between 2006 and 2017. The data was collected from 16 partners of the FDA's Sentinel System, a program that allows for active surveillance of healthcare data from multiple sources to monitor the safety of regulated medical products.

The data revealed exposures to GBCAs in 5,457 of 4,692,744 live births, a number corresponding to one in 860 pregnancies. Most of the exposures came from contrast MRI examinations of the head, although the number of pelvic and abdominal MRIs were also noteworthy. Almost three-quarters of exposures occurred during the first trimester. The results strongly suggested that inadvertent exposure to GBCAs may occur before pregnancy is recognized.

"Unintended fetal exposures to gadolinium can occur during early pregnancy among women who are not yet aware they are pregnant. Increased attention to existing pregnancy screening measures may help reduce inadvertent exposures to gadolinium contrast," Dr. Bird said.

The FDA has advised all MRI centers to provide a medication guide to outpatients during their first gadolinium contrast administration, stating that pregnant women and young children may be at increased risk from gadolinium staying in the body.

The researchers suggested several ways radiology imaging centers might avoid inadvertent administration of GBCAs to pregnant women. Among the tools are a safety screening form asking about the potential for pregnancy, direct questioning of women by radiologic technologists regarding pregnancy, prominently displayed signs asking women to notify radiology staff if they may be pregnant, and pregnancy testing when appropriate.

The FDA is continuing to monitor reports of adverse events associated with gadolinium exposure in utero. While this study was not designed to assess health outcomes of this early exposure for women and/or infants, the FDA is collaborating on and funding a study to evaluate potential risk for stillbirth and other neonatal adverse effects following in utero exposure to gadolinium in a large group of pregnant Medicaid beneficiaries.
