ARA teamed up with Chicks in Crisis, an Elk Grove, CA based non-profit organization to help bring these necessities to families in our community. Chicks in Crisis directly reduces the number of infants facing abandonment, foster care, abuse and even death by providing prenatal care, life skills training, parenting assistance, clothing, baby supplies, essential items, emergency food and legal guidance. "This organization is fantastic. We are happy to support [founder] Inez Whitlow and her crew and encourage others to do the same, especially during the holidays", said Walker. ARA has been a long-term financial supporter of Chicks in Crisis and is a top sponsor of their annual Thanksgiving morning fundraiser, the Elk Grove Gobble Wobble 5K/10K Run.
Chicks in Crisis Founder, Inez Whitlow, was overcome with emotion and states, "Each family was so excited about getting diapers, wipes and formula for their children. Some cried and couldn't stop thanking us for being there. It was very touching and as I was driving home, I cried. It was an incredible and overwhelming experience."
Diaper need statistics are alarming; in fact, 1 in 3 American families experience diaper need. The average cost of disposable diapers for one child every month is about $70 and when diapers aren't changed as often as they should be, babies run the risk of infections such as staph infections, bladder infections, diaper rash and even maggot infestations. Chicks in Crisis is extremely thankful for supporters like American River Ag who help contribute to their overall mission of providing love, home and family for every child.
