Jeri Robinson Honored with the Association of Children’s Museums’ Champion of the Field Award

Jeri Robinson, Vice President of Early childhood Initiatives at Boston Children's Museum, will receive the first-ever Champion of the Field Award from the Association of Children's Museums (ACM).

"Throughout her career, Jeri been instrumental in recognizing the importance of early childhood development, creating policies and programs that have directly shaped the world of early childhood education," said ACM Executive Director Laura Huerta Migus. "We're so incredibly proud to honor her as our first-ever Champion of the Field."

Robinson will accept the award on May 15th at the Inaugural ACM Awards Dinner during ACM's annual conference, InterActivity, in Raleigh, NC. She and Jennifer Farrington, ACM Board President and President and CEO of Chicago Children's Museum, will reflect on her forty years of service to the children's museum fi eld during a fireside chat. The Awards Dinner will also honor those receiving conference scholarships through the InterActivity Small Museums Financial Aid Program, sponsored by JRA, and the Diversity in Action Scholarship.

"For many years, Jeri has been a role model for me, and for the entire children's museum field," said Jennifer Farrington. "Her knowledge, ideals, and commitment to young children and families have moved the field forward in immeasurable ways. As ACM Board President, I am so proud to present her with this inaugural award, and to share and honor the work of her extraordinary career."

Jeri Robinson joined Boston Children's Museum (BCM) in 1973, and has more than forty-five years of experience teaching and consulting in the field of early childhood education. With the PlaySpace exhibit, she developed one of the earliest prototypes for early learning family spaces in museums. She also founded the Boston Cultural Collaborative for Early Learning, and co-founded the Families First Parenting and "Count Down to Kindergarten" programs.

"Jeri's decades of commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of children and families in a museum setting is unparalleled in our field. The Champion of the Field Award was instituted in 2018 by the ACM Board of Directors, as part of the organization's ongoing efforts to recognize excellence in the children's museum field.

ACM's long-standing scholarsh ip programs, Diversity in Action and the Small Museums Financial Aid Program, represent the field's key value of accessibility and inclusion, making the conference available to all. Hosted by Marbles Kids Museum from May 15-18, InterActivity 2018's theme is Open Source Play, Sharing the Creative Code. The annual conference convenes hundreds of children's museum leaders, staff, and stakeholders to share knowledge and advocate for the children's museum field.
